ConsultingHere's a product that I won't be buying. It looks as if the Coca-Cola Company is trying to cash in a little too much on the low carb craze with its new C2.
"Coca-Cola C2 brings all the great Coca-Cola taste with 1/2 the carbs and calories of regular Coca-Cola." Sounds great right? Too bad all that taste and only half the carbs comes with a hefty price!
I tried the new C2 at the Canadian National Exhibition, and really liked the product. When I went to buy it at my local supermarket I was shocked to find that it is more then 70% higher in price than Coca-cola Classic! A 12 pack of Coke Classic was selling for $2.99 while an 8 pack of C2 was priced at $3.49!
I might be interested in lowering my intake of carbs, but I sure don't want to pay a 70% premium to do it. Diet Coke goes for the same price as regular Coke, so why the big difference on the new product?
And a crappy 8 PACK? What's up with an 8 pack?
My life on the internet has become all about battling spam. It's bad enough in my regular inboxes, but now I am getting spam via my site's feedback forms and in my 'blog! What to do?
For my regular inbox spam I have resorted to using a service called Mailblocks. It uses a "Challenge and Resonse" system so that only email from real human beings is supposed to get through. However, some spammers have managed to get past that! The other problem is that many senders don't ever reply to the challenge, and their mail gets deleted after three days if I don't rescue it from the "Pending" folder. As I am only looking at headers, this is still faster than having to download all of the messages off my servers.
For my 'blog, I have started to use MT Blacklist by Jay Allen. My favourite feature of this nifty plug-in for MovableType is the button that is labelled "Go forth and do my bidding!" when I go to "despam" the 'blog. This plug-in blocks many of the known weblog spammers. If some still get through all you have to do is despam the 'blog by clicking the link in the email notice of a new comment. You can also add the new spammer to your blacklist automaticlly. It is a very good plug-in, and I HIGHLY recommend it!
Now, can anyone come up with a plan to keep the spammers from using my feedback forms to send me notices about funneling money out of General Mombassa's secret bank accounts in Nigeria?
Since 1997 I have served as the webmaster for Clan MacNeil in Canada. For the first two years the website was an unofficial one, and was made the official website by a vote of the Clan MacNeil in Canada Executive Board in 1999. Last Friday I received a letter from the President of Clan MacNeil in Canada demanding that I close the website by September 1st.
The letter makes reference to the Executive Board of Clan MacNeil's "final decision" to close the webpage. This reference implies that a meeting was held. I was not aware of, nor was I informed of, any meetings or decisions regarding the website until the closure letter was received on July 30, 2004.
The web server space and domain registration for http://www.clanmacneil.ca were arranged, maintained, and paid for by me several years before the site became the official Clan MacNeil in Canada site in 1999. As I did all of the website design and am still the owner of the domain name, I decided to disassociate the clanmacneil.ca domain name from Clan MacNeil in Canada and migrate all non Clan MacNeil in Canada specific content to a new website under the banner of Clan MacNeil Net. The old Clan MacNeil in Canada website was host to over 40,000 visitors from around the world, and I believe that the information available on the site is still useful and still very much in demand.
As of August 1, 2004, http://www.clanmacneil.ca became the main site URL for Clan MacNeil Net. The clanmacneil.ca website no longer has any association with Clan MacNeil in Canada. People seeking information on Clan MacNeil in Canada should direct their questions to the organization's President Ms Alene McNeill. Ms McNeill can be reached at 378 Ashworth Drive, Newmarket, ON L3Y 6T6.
The following URLs will now point to the new Clan MacNeil Net:
* http://www.clanmacneil.ca
* http://www.clanmacneil.org
* http://www.clanmacneil.com
* http://www.clanmacneil.net
It is my intention that Clan MacNeil Net becomes an important resource on the internet for all Clan MacNeil related web sites, businesses, and activities. Future plans involve a net portal, link archives, email services, and other web based services for the Clan MacNeil family at large.
