Theatre Lighting Design, Technical Direction and
ConsultingThis is an entry that I made into an abandoned "Blogger" weblog. Somehow I found it again. It was written on 12/12/01. . .
Why is this here?
As of right now I am still not sure what this space will evolve into. I am not much of a writer, and I don't really have any soapbox issues that I need to rant about. I have a great full time job, so the title "Shameless Self Promotion" is really just something that popped into my head, and it looked good as a title.
To tell the truth, right now I am wondering what the end of Ramadan will bring to the United States. Visions of September 11th are still burned into my brain. Most of all I remember an auditorium full of Canadian high school kids saying "Cool!" as the first tower of the World Trade Center came down. How can seeing the bane of thousands of people be cool? Too much television and too many movies made the collapse of the buildings look like the ending to a Hollywood potboiler. Any second now Arnold will be back. . .
Alerts and warnings are flying and kooks 'round the world are phoning in bomb threats and sending out packets of white powder. What a world.
An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth will be the death of us all. Wait a minute. . . didn't I just say that I didn't have any soap box issues right in the very first paragraph? Well perhaps I do after all. . .
The above entry evolved into nothing. I abandoned it after that one post, but the killing is still going on. First it was New York, Washington DC, and a field in Pennsylvania. Then Afghanistan, and then Iraq. It looks like Iran might be next.
And it's not just the US of A against whoever George W. Bush decides to bomb this week. It's Croats v. Serbs, it's our god v. your god, and it’s our country right or wrong against the world. Do people think that genocide stopped after WWII? If you do, you are wrong. Rwanda and Darfur, Sudan are proof of that. And so it goes, Muslim against Christian, Hutu against Tutsi, and Arab "Janjaweed" Militia against the black Sudanese.
I fear that something terrible will be happening soon. Something that will make the past pale in comparison. I pray that I am wrong. I really, really do. . .
